APPLETON, Wis. (May 6, 2010) – Thrivent Financial for Lutherans announced today that Jon Stellmacher, senior vice president and chief of staff and administration, will retire from the organization effective June 1, 2010, after nearly 32 years of service.

“We are thankful for Jon’s leadership and we will miss him,” said Brad Hewitt, president and CEO of Thrivent Financial. “Jon has been a humble servant leader who has served Thrivent Financial well throughout his career.”

Stellmacher has spent his entire professional career with Thrivent Financial. After joining the organization in 1978, he held several positions in areas such as Health Products, Agency Services and Development, Member Services, and Financial Services Operations. He served as chief administrative officer from 2005-2008 and assumed his current role of chief of staff and administration in 2008.

“Retirement comes with sadness, as I will miss Thrivent Financial and the people, but also excitement for what is ahead,” said Stellmacher. “Thrivent Financial is poised to begin an era of even greater success, but the timing was right for me to explore my other areas of interest.”

Stellmacher will remain active in the Fox Cities community and beyond. He currently serves on the boards for numerous organizations including the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center, ThedaCare, and the Luther College Board of Regents. He also co-chairs the Partnership for Wisconsin’s Economic Success as well as Project Promise – a Fox Cities poverty coalition. He is a trustee for the Committee for Economic Development and serves on the Governor’s Advisory Council on Early Childhood.

A native of Seymour, Wis., Stellmacher is an alumnus of the University of Wisconsin – Madison and is also a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

“We are grateful for Jon’s leadership at Thrivent Financial as well as in the Fox Cities,” continued Hewitt. “He has helped us honor our traditions and heritage while at the same time helping the organization attain the level of strength and stability that we enjoy today.”

Hewitt added that he does not intend to name a new chief of staff to replace Stellmacher.
