Fan it ForwardSM campaign reaches goal of generating $10,000 for Lutheran World Relief

Thrivent Financial gave Facebook fans opportunity to give back with one click


MINNEAPOLIS (March 29, 2010) – What do you get when you combine the popularity of Facebook with 10,000 Facebook users who want to make a difference? $10,000 to support Lutheran World Relief! In a first-of-its-kind effort for Thrivent Financial, 10,000 people made a difference with just one click as part of the Fan it Forward campaign.

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans launched the charitable outreach campaign February 15 on Facebook allowing fans an easy way to help others worldwide. For every new fan of the Thrivent Financial Facebook page, Thrivent Financial pledged to contribute $1 to Lutheran World Relief (LWR), up to $10,000. The goal of Fan it Forward was to not only generate $10,000 for LWR but also raise awareness for the humanitarian outreach programs the organization has in 35 countries around the world.

“The success of this effort speaks to the power of online community and the interest that people have in coming together to make a difference,” said Marie Uhrich, senior vice president of Communications for Thrivent Financial.

During the campaign, a Fan it ForwardSM tab on the Thrivent Financial Facebook page highlighted the campaign details and gave fans quick tools to share information about Fan it Forward with their friends and family through Facebook, Twitter and email. Today, the tab features a thank you message to everyone who supported the effort.
