Thrivent Financial Bank offers free service to help consumers get financially back on track
Initial success of Debt SavvySM leads to program expansion
| MINNEAPOLIS (Oct. 29, 2009) – As the economy continues to show signs of recovering, one bank is taking steps to ensure consumers also bounce back from the financial woes caused by the market turmoil of the past two years. Thrivent Financial Bank, a wholly owned subsidiary of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, is offering its Debt SavvySM program at all locations as well as online. The Debt Savvy program is a free service that enables people to develop a solid plan to help get them get out of debt, whether their goal is to become debt-free by retirement or to simply stop struggling with day-to-day and month-to-month debt. What sets the program apart from other debt counseling services is the ability of the consumer to work on their own or receive a high-touch approach from a Thrivent Financial Bank employee, all of whom have been trained to provide the Debt Savvy services.
“We started the Debt Savvy program as a pilot to gauge if there was even any interest in this type of service,” said Jill Aleshire, senior vice president and director of Consumer Banking for Thrivent Financial Bank. “We initially had two people trained as “debt guides”, but the demand was such that we felt a need to fully integrate the program into the day-to-day bank operations.” Whether they are “do-it-yourselfers” or prefer more personal attention, the Debt Savvy program can help consumers:
“Americans are ready to begin the process of putting the pieces of their financial lives back together,” added Aleshire. “We feel strongly that our Debt Savvy program is an easy, non-threatening way for people to get started on building a strong financial future for themselves.” For more information, consumers are invited to take the Debt Savvy QuizSM at https://www.thrivent.com/banking/personal/debt/quiz.html or to call 800-793-3398.
