Job seekers receive ‘hand up’ with free, online job transition resources
Educational, financial and spiritual resources for job transitions now on thrivent.com
| MINNEAPOLIS (Aug. 6, 2009) – Ask anyone standing in an unemployment line: losing your job can be emotionally and financially devastating. And finding a new job in today’s market is often a stressful and long-term process.
According to the Federal Reserve’s latest report, the overall unemployment rate rose to 9.5 percent of the labor force in June, the highest since 1982. The long-term unemployment rate – the proportion of the labor force that has been out of work for at least 15 weeks – climbed to 5.1 percent. To address the need, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is now offering free, online educational job transition resources for those anticipating a job loss, currently unemployed and newly hired. The resources, which include educational modules, financial checklists and links to spiritual and values-based resources, are located at: www.thrivent.com/jobchange. “Nothing unravels a family’s financial security faster than a prolonged period of unemployment,” says Laura Dierke, manager of financial education for Thrivent Financial. “We know that the most important asset a person can have is a steady job and income. Given the current economic environment, we decided to launch these resources to help people land on their feet.” The job transition resources are organized into three main categories: educational, financial, and emotional and spiritual.
