Sorum elected to The American College’s board of trustees
Executive to help direct educational institution for financial services professionals
| MINNEAPOLIS (June 16, 2009) – The American College, the nation’s premier educator of financial services professionals, recently announced the election of Nikki Sorum, senior vice president, field distribution and development, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, to the institution’s board of trustees.
“Nikki will be a tremendous asset to our board of trustees thanks to her in-depth knowledge of the financial services industry,” said Larry Barton, Ph.D., president and CEO of The American College. “With over 20 years of experience in strategic planning and business development, her contributions to The College will prove invaluable as we moved forward in this challenging economic environment.” Sorum joined Thrivent Financial in 2002. She started with the company as vice president of new business ventures and the financial consulting group. In 2003, she was promoted to senior vice president, business development; in 2004, she was promoted again to senior vice president, marketing and investment products. Sorum became senior vice president, field distribution and development in 2006. Prior to Thrivent Financial, Sorum spent seven years at RBC Dain Rauscher. There, she served as senior vice president, led strategic planning and corporate development and reintroduced products for a larger market. Before RBC Dain, Sorum spent eight years with McKinsey and Company as a consultant and partner. Sorum is married with three children and is an active member of her community in Minnesota. She serves on the boards of The Guthrie Theater, Lake Country School and Greenspring, the parent company of Minnesota Monthly Publications and the MNN Radio Network. She received her bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Minnesota and her MBA from Harvard University.
