May 30: Thrivent Builds Night at the Game offers Lutherans from across Wisconsin a memorable night at Miller Park
Rolling exhibit transports Brewers fans into substandard housing
| MILWAUKEE, Wis. (May 27, 2009) – What do baseball fans, Lutherans, and new homeowners have in common? They will all enjoy the Saturday, May 30 Milwaukee Brewers game when the hometown team takes on the Cincinnati Reds!
Designated “Thrivent Builds Night at the Game” at Miller Park, over 3,000 members of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will come to the game from cities across Wisconsin including Chippewa Falls, Sheboygan, Eau Claire, Wausau, Shawano, Portage, Door County, Ozaukee County, Washington County and the Milwaukee area. These Lutherans will enjoy time together tailgating, cheering for the Brewers, celebrating the $2.7 million that Thrivent Financial will be presenting to Habitat for Humanity in Wisconsin, and touring a special exhibit about substandard housing. Rolling exhibit will transport Brewers fans into substandard housing before the game begins One pre-game activity will stand in stark contrast to the lighthearted enjoyment of baseball. All game attendees will be given an opportunity to tour a special exhibit about substandard housing and learn how each of us can be part of the solution. From 3:00—6:00pm, the general public is invited to join Thrivent members on free tours of the 67-foot Thrivent Builds Mobile, which will be located on the north side of the Miller Park parking lot, between the clock tower and the hot corner with TGI Friday’s. The exhibit, traveling through nine states this year, is designed to rally thousands of individuals and organizations to advocate, donate, and participate in Habitat for Humanity’s effort to build decent, affordable housing. Inside this bright red semi-truck, fans will connect with the sights, sounds and feel of substandard housing. Outside the exhibit, visitors can learn volunteering information and enjoy competitive games, kids’ activities, and a free gift. “Being able to help provide families with a home means so much to Thrivent members,” states Thomas Bruckner, managing partner for Thrivent Financial’s Southeast Wisconsin Region. “Volunteering is an important aspect of our membership. This exhibit tells the Thrivent Builds story and asks others in the community to join us as we help some of our most vulnerable families take an important step toward financial security through affordable homeownership.” Pre-game ceremony celebrates Thrivent’s volunteer and financial support for Habitat for Humanity In addition to this educational exhibit, Thrivent Builds Night at the Game will also celebrate the contributions Thrivent Financial has already made to help Habitat affiliates around the world provide low-income families with decent, affordable housing. In a pre-game ceremony, Thrivent Financial will present $2,720,185 to Wisconsin Habitat for Humanity affiliates, making it possible for 33 new Wisconsin families to own their own home. Thrivent Financial financially supports the construction of hundreds of Habitat for Humanity homes annually in the United States by providing 65 percent of the construction costs. The remaining funding is generated by local Thrivent chapters (10 percent), Habitat affiliates and other supporters (25 percent). The alliance also engages thousands of local Thrivent members and hundreds of Lutheran congregations as volunteers to help build Habitat homes. Many of the fans at the game are also the volunteers who have helped build over 100 Wisconsin Thrivent Builds homes so far. Thrivent Financial’s volunteer and financial support for Habitat for Humanity includes: Milwaukee Brewers and Brewers Charities support Thrivent Builds with Habitat partner families In the pre-game ceremony, Brewers Charities will join Thrivent Financial on the field to recognize local Habitat partner families. Brewers Charities will present a total of $6,000 to twelve 2009 Thrivent Builds with Habitat families, ten building their homes with Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity and two building with Habitat for Humanity of Washington County. The gifts will be in the form of $500 Lowe’s and Home Depot gift cards to help make each family’s house a home. These twelve families were selected from the 33 total Wisconsin 2009 Thrivent Builds with Habitat partner families because they live within the Greater Milwaukee area.
