Thrivent Financial continues to thrive without TARP assistance


MINNEAPOLIS (May 19, 2009) – While other companies might be participating in TARP funding programs, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has not needed and sees no future need for TARP assistance. The economy has been challenging and the organization has not been immune to recent events, but Thrivent Financial continues to stand strong.

In 2008-2009, Thrivent Financial:
  • Continues to maintain a surplus to meet members’ claims that is well in excess of the surplus required by regulators.
  • Increased total dividends to eligible contractholders, while some insurance companies have reduced dividends.
  • Is fulfilling its mission to give back. In 2008, Thrivent members raised and donated $183.6 million to congregations, communities and individuals in need, while Thrivent Financial added $126.2 million in direct contributions to communities, congregations and nonprofit organizations.
  • Has not applied for and does not need TARP funds.
