Thrivent Financial allocates $975,000 in gifts to local taxing entities

Organization shows support for Fox Cities with voluntary contributions

APPLETON, Wis. (Oct. 22, 2008) – In appreciation for the public services available to the organization and its employees, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has made voluntary contributions to four Fox Cities taxing entities totaling $975,000.

Under Wisconsin law, fraternal benefit societies such as Thrivent Financial may claim a property tax exemption for up to 10 acres of property. Despite the exemption, Thrivent Financial is voluntarily giving $374,381 to the city of Appleton, $315,884 to the Appleton Area School District, $204,740 to Outagamie County and $79,946 to Fox Valley Technical College.

“Thrivent Financial, our employees and their families value the public services we have in the Fox Cities,” said Jon Stellmacher, chief administrative officer and executive vice president of Thrivent Financial. “These voluntary contributions are one way for us to support the programs and services in our community that all area residents have come to rely on each day.”

Thrivent Financial began making voluntary contributions in 1978, when it started to claim the 10-acre exemption on a portion of its Ballard Road property. Since 1978, the organization has voluntarily contributed more than $19 million to area taxing units.
