Thrivent Financial receives financial literacy award
Institute for Financial Literacy honors ‘More Than Money Matters’
| MINNEAPOLIS (Sept. 26, 2008) – Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, a Minneapolis-based Fortune 500 financial services organization, has received the 2008 Excellence in Financial Literacy Education (EIFLE) Award from the Institute for Financial Literacy. The organization was one of just seven individuals/institutions to be honored with the award.
Thrivent Financial was honored for “More Than Money Matters” in the “institutional book of the year in the money management adult category.” This interactive, values-based workshop assists those who want to learn to manage their money in a way that is consistent with their values. The workshop helps participants embrace stewardship as part of the responsible management of their financial resources. “More Than Money Matters” consists of six sessions helping people identify what is most important in their lives and then set appropriate goals. The workshop teaches attendees how to budget, reduce debt and find money to save. EIFLE judges found “More Than Money Matters” provides “solid, easy-to-follow financial education resulting in real financial literacy.” The judges were also impressed with how the workshop beautifully handles faith. “More Than Money Matters” is the first faith-based curriculum to win this award. “No matter what your financial situation, ‘More Than Money Matters’ is designed to give people the tools to manage their finances in a manner in line with their values,” said Kevin Olsen, Thrivent Financial program developer of the “More Than Money Matters” workshop. “We are thrilled to be recognized for our efforts.” “The Excellence in Financial Literacy Education Award is an opportunity to recognize the hard work and effort of the individuals and organizations that are seeking to improve the financial literacy of Americans,” said Leslie E. Linfield, executive director of the Institute for Financial Literacy. “The Institute is pleased to help raise the visibility of these efforts to the general public through the EIFLE Award.” The Institute for Financial Literacy was founded in 2002. It is a tax exempt nonprofit organization whose mission is to make effective financial literacy education available for all American adults. Annually, the institute acknowledges the innovation, dedication and commitment of those who support financial literacy education with the EIFLE Award. The EIFLE Awards were presented during the Annual Conference on Financial Education held in Atlanta, Sept. 10–12.
