Thrivent Financial and its members aim to generate $1.5 million for Midwest flood relief
Thrivent Financial members nationwide rally to organize local fund-raisers
| MINNEAPOLIS (July 16, 2008) – Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and its nearly 3 million members nationwide are rallying to generate at least $1.5 million for communities in Indiana, Iowa and Wisconsin devastated by recent Midwest flooding. The contribution is anticipated to include $1 million donated and raised by Thrivent Financial members, and an additional $500,000 provided by Thrivent Financial.
“When there is a need, Thrivent Financial and our members are eager to help,” said Brad Hewitt, senior vice president of charitable programs for Thrivent Financial. “Thanks to Thrivent Financial’s unique structure, our members in the Midwest and across the country can quickly organize volunteers in their community to raise funds and provide hope to the recent flood victims.” Thrivent Financial members are organized into 1,357 local groups, called chapters, to plan and execute benevolent, social and educational activities. In response to the flooding, Thrivent chapters are preparing activities in their local communities to raise funds for relief efforts. Money raised from chapter activities is anticipated to reach $1 million and Thrivent Financial is committing up to $500,000 in additional funding to supplement the chapters’ efforts. Thrivent Financial will distribute half of the disaster relief generated to organizations and recipients within the flood-affected three-state area through its regional offices. The remaining disaster relief dollars will be directed to two Lutheran agencies, Lutheran Disaster Response and WELS Committee on Relief, to meet needs specifically related to the Midwest floods. Payment extension for Thrivent Financial members Thrivent Financial is extending premium due dates and grace periods for life and health (including disability income, long-term care, hospital confinement/family hospital, and Medicare supplement) policy holders living in Illinois. This will help ensure contracts don’t lapse if a payment cannot be made by members impacted by the flooding. Beginning Aug. 18, normal grace periods will resume. Thrivent Financial members in Indiana and Iowa also can choose to extend the grace period. In accordance with regulatory requirements in those states, policy holders will need to contact Thrivent Financial to request an extension. Thrivent Financial members who have any questions concerning their contracts and accounts can contact Thrivent Financial at 1-800-THRIVENT.
