Nearly $5.8 million raised and donated for Fox Cities
| APPLETON, Wis. (May 8, 2008) – Nearly $5.8 million and more than 250,000 volunteer hours. That’s the support generated locally for nonprofit organizations, congregations and individuals and families in need during 2007 by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans with its local members, employees, retirees and the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Foundation.
“We feel blessed to contribute to this community’s good health,” said Jon Stellmacher, Thrivent Financial executive vice president and chief administrative officer. “Thrivent Financial members, our employees and retirees share a passion for helping others. We are confident our collective effort, together with so many others in the Fox Cities, will continue to make a positive impact today and for many years to come.” In 2007, Thrivent Financial members in the Fox Cities performed 680 community activities while volunteering 150,000 hours to raise and donate $1.4 million, including funds from Thrivent Financial. Thrivent Financial employees, retirees and their families also volunteered approximately 100,000 hours throughout 2007, dedicating their time and talents to service projects and nonprofits in the Fox Cities. More than $1.4 million dollars was contributed by Thrivent Financial and its employees to local organizations through the Thrivent Financial employee gift matching program. Thrivent Financial and its employees supported the United Way Fox Cities community campaign by contributing $325,000 in 2007. In addition, the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Foundation provided 101 grants totaling more than $1.5 million to charitable organizations in the Fox Cities during 2007. Finally, Thrivent Financial’s GivingPlus® Program provided nearly $590,000 to Lutheran educational institutions and outreach ministry organizations in the Fox Cities last year. Through this program, Thrivent Financial and its subsidiaries add one dollar to every two dollars members give to eligible and enrolled Lutheran organizations. The Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Foundation is a private foundation funded by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. As a 501(c)(3) organization with its own board of trustees, the foundation is organized and operated exclusively for charitable, religious, scientific, literary and educational purposes and makes grants and gifts to 501(c)(3) exempt organizations.
