Spring issue of Thrivent magazine arriving in mailboxes now
Stories on faith, finance and volunteerism feature many members of Thrivent Financial
| MINNEAPOLIS/APPLETON, Wis. (April 24, 2008) – The latest issue of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans’ member magazine Thrivent features members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) and the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod, as well as many Thrivent chapter members.
In the Spring 2008 issue, featured articles include: “College Can Do,” which outlines strategies to help cover college costs; “Think Again,” which discusses the importance of disability income insurance; “Family Time,” which provides ideas to help make more time for family and friends; and “Getting Together,” which looks at the variety of ways Thrivent Financial members come together in their communities. From Florida to Washington, ELCA, LCMS and WELS members are active with Thrivent Financial, whether talking about their faith, finances or helping others. The Spring 2008 issue features the following ELCA members and congregations: • Shawn Ryan, a Thrivent Financial representative, is featured in “Money Matters: Switching Gears.” Ryan helps Thrivent Financial members plan for retirement, including the often-overlooked issue of how to spend savings in retirement. Ryan attends Our Savior Lutheran Church in Salem, Ore. (Oregon Synod) and is a member of the North Willamette Chapter of Thrivent Financial. • Jack Claypotch in “College Can-Do,” covers some of the strategies that can be used to address common college funding challenges. Claypotch, a Thrivent Financial representative, attends Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Royersford, Pa. (Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod), and is a member of the Upper Montgomery County Chapter of Thrivent Financial. • Thrivent Financial representative Alison LeCloux is also highlighted in “College Can-Do.” In addition to the print magazine, LeCloux is featured in an online interview about the strategies she’s personally using to plan for her children’s college education. LeCloux attends Lord of Light Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor, Mich. (Southeast Michigan Synod), and is a member of the Livingston County, Mich., Chapter of Thrivent Financial. • Shelley & Michael Mobley of Charlotte, N.C., are featured in “Family Time,” sharing ways they make spending time together as a family a priority, despite busy schedules. The Mobleys attend St. Mark Lutheran Church (North Carolina Synod) in Charlotte and are members of the Greater Charlotte Chapter of Thrivent Financial. • Brian Daniels is also featured in “Think Again.” As a Thrivent Financial representative in Idaho Falls, Idaho, Daniels encourages his clients to prepare for the unexpected. Daniels attends First Lutheran Church in Idaho Falls (Eastern Washington-Idaho Synod) and is a member of the Upper Snake River Idaho Chapter of Thrivent Financial. • Lynn & David Arezzini of Stamford, Conn., are featured in “Peace of Mind.” The Arezzinis share their story of creating a financial and care plan for their son, David, who has autism. The Arezzinis attend St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stamford and are members of the Western Connecticut Chapter of Thrivent Financial. • Bob Thunselle is featured in “Getting Together: Riding for Ronald.” Thunselle, a Thrivent Financial representative in Casper, Wyo., completed the 508-mile Furnace Creek bicycling race through California’s Mojave Desert and Death Valley to raise funds for a Ronald McDonald House in Denver. Thunselle attends Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Casper and is a member of the Natrona County Chapter of Thrivent Financial. The Spring 2008 issue features the following LCMS members: • The Rev. David Wurster of Buffalo, N.Y., is featured in “Family Time,” sharing ways to make spending time together a priority, despite busy schedules. Wurster is pastor of Salem Lutheran Church in Buffalo (Eastern Buffalo District, Circuit #1 – Buffalo North) and is a member of the Erie County, N.Y., Chapter of Thrivent Financial. • Salem Lutheran School in Tomball, Texas, invited students to share why they think spending time with family is important. A few answers are featured in “Family Time” in the print magazine, and additional submissions, both written and drawings, are highlighted online. Salem Lutheran School is in the LCMS Texas District, Circuit #39. • Lynn Stuhr, a Thrivent Financial representative in Pewaukee, Wis., is featured in “Think Again.” Stuhr shares his expertise to help members understand the importance of disability income insurance to help protect their financial security. Stuhr attends Hales Corners Lutheran Church in Hales Corners, Wis. (LCMS English District, Circuit #18 – Milwaukee South), and is a member of the Racine County Chapter of Thrivent Financial. • Ron & Kathy White of Rigby, Idaho, are featured in “Think Again.” The Whites share their personal story of Ron’s disability from work due to non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and how disability income insurance helped them cover expenses. The Whites attend Crown of Life Lutheran Church in Rigby and are members of the Upper Snake River Idaho Chapter of Thrivent Financial. Crown of Life is in the LCMS Northwest District, Circuit #12 – Yellowstone. • The Rev. Clare Skov and the extended Skov family are featured in “Getting Together: Building a Bell,” for work the family did last summer to build a new bell tower at Lutheran Valley Ranch in Woodland Park, Colo., as part of a family reunion. Skov is pastor at Faith Lutheran Church in Johnstown, Colo., and a member of the Weld County Chapter of Thrivent Financial. Faith Lutheran is in the LCMS Rocky Mountain District, Circuit #4 – Long Peak. • Grace Lutheran Church & School is featured in “Getting Together: For Mental Health,” for a dinner theatre event done to raise fund for the Center for Children in La Plata. Grace Lutheran is in the LCMS Southeastern District, Circuit #8 – Washington South. • St. Matthew Lutheran Church and School in Walled Lake, Mich., is featured in “Getting Together: Gala Success” for a Homecoming Gala and Auction conducted last October. The event was coordinated by Thrivent Financial representative Kim Talley along with Kae Trojanowski and Jeff Beck, members of the West Oakland County Thrivent chapter. St. Matthew is in the LCMS Michigan District, Circuit #26 – Kensington. The Spring 2008 issue features the following WELS member: • Robert Baker of Nampa, Idaho, featured in “Peace of Mind.” As a father of a son with Down’s Syndrome and a Thrivent Financial representative, Baker has dual perspective on the issues facing parents with special needs children. Baker attends Messiah Lutheran Church (Pacific Northwest District/Cascades Conference) in Nampa and is a member of the Canyon County Chapter of Thrivent Financial. The Spring 2008 issue features the following Thrivent chapters and members: • Tom & Kathy Braeunig are featured in “Money Matters: Shifting Gears.” The Braeunigs share their story of how they worked with Thrivent Financial to review their goals and determine how much of their retirement savings they could spend once they retired. The Braeunigs are members of the North Willamette Chapter of Thrivent Financial. • Deborah Hoger of Spokane Valley, Wash., is also featured in “Think Again.” More than 20 years ago, Hoger was disabled and unable to work for more than nine months; she had to sell her ranch and move in with her parents. Today, as a Thrivent Financial representative, Hoger uses her personal story to help members understand the importance of protecting their income. Hoger is a member of the Spokane Valley Chapter of Thrivent Financial. • Alice Reitz is featured in “Peace of Mind.” Reitz is a Thrivent Financial representative with extensive experience developing financial strategies for families with children with special needs. Reitz is a member of the New Haven Chapter of Thrivent Financial. • Brenda & Paul Sullivan are also featured in “Peace of Mind.” With Reitz to guide them, the Sullivans created a financial program for their daughter, Katie, who has severe cerebral palsy. The Sullivans are members of the Hartford County Chapter of Thrivent Financial. • The Charles County and Calvert-St. Mary’s County Chapters of Thrivent Financial are featured in “Getting Together: Riding for Ronald.” The chapters sponsored events and helped support two riders who participated in the 508-mile Furnace Creek bicycling race through California’s Mojave Desert and Death Valley to raise funds for a Ronald McDonald House in Denver. • The Miami-Dade County Chapter of Thrivent Financial is featured in “Getting Together: Destination Iraq” for its program to gather food, toiletries and other items to send to troops serving in Iraq. • The Southwest Montana Chapter is featured in <“Getting Together: Old-Fashioned BBQ” for a recent event to bring members from seven different Lutheran churches together for food, fun and fellowship. • The North Travis and South Travis County Chapters of Thrivent Financial are featured in “Getting Together: Reaching Out for Wright,” for fundraising and other support done for Thrivent member Derrick Wright and his family following injuries he sustained in Iraq last spring. • The Northwest Kansas Chapter of Thrivent Financial is featured in “Getting Together: Little Town, Big Heart,” for a fundraising event benefiting a Brewster, Kan., high school student suffering from brain cancer.
